Major Disappointment.

So yesterday sucked. I had an appointment with a Craigslist seller to go look at a 1985 CRX Si, which I had mentioned in previous posts. The seller led me to believe he was out of town for the weekend, and I couldn’t go look at the car until 4pm, well at 1 pm he asked me again how serious I was about buying the car, and I told him very serious with cash in hand. 20 minutes later he informed me the car was sold. So not only did I not get to buy the car, I didn’t even get to see it.

I haven’t been that upset in a long time. I was about 100% committed to buying the car, and vey excited, after all clean old Hondas don’t pop up very often in the upper Midwest, and when they do people want stupid money for them. For expample the only other first go CRX that isn’t a total basket case, is a 1984 DX, and the seller wants 2800 for it, 900 more than the asking price on that Si. On top of losing that opportunity my wife then informs me that she really doesn’t want me to buy a two seater anyway. I checked out CL for anything else interesting, as I was already 4 hours from home with two grand in my pocket to burn, but didn’t find anything worth my time, for that price. So instead of having an awesome day, and that new car high, I had a shitty day of major disappointment.

Several times o thought about calling the seller and chewing him out for selling the car out from under me, but I have to remind myself that would be a fruitless, and senseless effort.

That sucks. If you’re ever in Kansas City and want to take one for a spin, let me know. I have an ‘87 CRX Si. As long as you don’t dive too hard into corners. It’s pretty rusty underneath.

Yeah, I stopped looking for Miatas after the third time this happened to me in 2 weeks. By that point, I was ready to buy a car, not be used as someone’s negotiation chip to drive up existing bids...

Yeah Im sure he got his asking price maybe more, than again if he really wanted more he just could have set his price higher. The worst part is the car had been for sale almost three weeks.

The seller is an idiot for not (at least) letting his buyers show up at the same time. Then you could at least have a friendly bidding war or maybe a Mexican standoff. Either way, awesome.

Brother, I have a Prelude I will sell you for $1000. if you have it shipped to your place you would still have money left over. its the same one from the Save the Lude series found here: https://kinja.com/metallicaman02… . you would have a 4 seater, 5 speed, 2.2l (F22) Honda for the price of a set of tires.

That royally sucks. I don't get craigslist sellers. Why screw around people with actual interest to buy your car? I'm bummed for you the CRX is a great car. I would have loved to know it's history. When did it get a repaint, for instance, as they never came in that color.

Exactly, I yelled at one of the Miata owners— I was 10 minutes away after driving for more than a half hour, with far more cash on me than I was comfortable carrying. In fact, I had an extra $200 over what he was asking, just in case there *was* a bidding war. Nope, he sold it to the person who he invited by *before* he’d even told me he was available, and sold it for $200 less than asking. I tried calling him as I was getting close to his house, only to get another voice on the line going “IT’S MY MIATA” with their best Gollum impression. I was very confused until I realized I’d reached the person who was in the process of buying it at that moment, and they’d picked up a stranger’s phone to gloat.

Even then, I'd be like "hey, I've got a guy coming at 4 and I need to meet with him, but I'll give you last look." Unless that first dude is offering like double the asking price, I would keep the car on the table. Because you could be some psycho redneck who spends the rest of his life tormenting the seller :D

People are ass-holes on craigslist. Maybe if I took that approach the Montego would be sold by now.

I’m honest about condition and let people see it in the order that they contact me though. I’m not having them come back to my house starting trouble. I put the cards on the table.
